Tottenham’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brentford has highlighted just how badly Roberto De Zerbi’s side need a reliable striker. Despite spending more than £300 million on new players this summer, Spurs struggled badly in attack, managing only two shots on target.
However, there is now some encouraging news for Tottenham. Talks over a potential move for Victor Osimhen are reportedly progressing, with Galatasaray believed to have softened their £70 million valuation. A deal in the region of £60–65 million could now be possible.
Osimhen is viewed as an ideal solution to Spurs’ long-standing goalscoring problem. The Nigerian striker offers pace, physical strength and clinical finishing, while his record of 107 goals in 145 appearances over the last four seasons underlines his ability in front of goal.
Tottenham could face competition from Arsenal, who are also reportedly in discussions with Galatasaray. That means Daniel Levy may need to act quickly if Spurs are serious about securing the striker.
There are other options on Tottenham’s radar, including Cody Gakpo, Savinho and Folarin Balogun, but Osimhen appears to be the standout target because of his experience and proven goalscoring record.
The move would come with financial risks, particularly after Tottenham’s huge summer spending, but Osimhen could provide the goals and star quality De Zerbi’s team currently lack. If Spurs can complete the deal, the Brentford defeat could ultimately become the moment that forced the club to finally solve its striker problem.
