Kudus, Richarlison, and others remain sidelined through injury.

Cristian Romero has voiced his frustration after Tottenham Hotspur failed to strengthen their squad on the final day of the transfer window.

Following a four-week period of transfer activity, the window officially closed on Monday night, meaning clubs must now wait until June 15 to make further signings. While several Premier League sides stayed active throughout January — with Manchester City emerging as major beneficiaries after securing Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi — Spurs supporters were left disappointed by their club’s limited business.

Tottenham’s lack of activity has drawn criticism from fans, particularly given their lowly position of 14th in the Premier League, and it appears Romero shares those concerns. The club captain took to social media shortly after the window shut to express his displeasure in a strongly worded post.

Less than 24 hours before the deadline, Spurs earned a creditable draw against Manchester City despite being without nine senior players due to injury. The situation worsened during the match when Romero was forced off at half-time, with head coach Thomas Frank later confirming the defender was unwell.

Rather than focusing solely on the result, Romero highlighted the club’s transfer shortcomings. Writing on Instagram, he praised his teammates’ commitment and revealed the squad had only 11 players available, calling the situation “unbelievable” and “disgraceful.” He added that the team would continue to take responsibility, work hard, and remain united, while also thanking the fans for their unwavering support.

Romero’s post, shared soon after the deadline passed with no late additions, underlined his frustration with the club’s approach. Over the entire window, Spurs completed just two signings: Conor Gallagher from Chelsea for £34 million and 19-year-old defender Souza from Santos for £13 million.

Tottenham also sold Wales international Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for £35 million, having signed him for £47.5 million in 2023. Meanwhile, key players including James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Micky van de Ven, Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison, and others remain sidelined through injury.
