Tottenham hopes reignited as Pochettino drops major return hint in explosive interview

Tottenham supporters would love nothing more than to see Mauricio Pochettino back in the dugout, as uncertainty continues to swirl around Thomas Frank’s future.

Saturday’s 2–0 defeat to Manchester United only intensified the pressure on Frank, with many fans now calling for his dismissal. Although Spurs had gone four matches unbeaten prior to the loss, the lifeless display at Old Trafford made that run feel misleading, as if the progress had been an illusion.

As Frank’s position grows increasingly fragile, Pochettino’s odds of returning to North London have shortened dramatically. The Argentine has now emerged as the clear favourite to take charge at N17 once again, raising hopes of a long-awaited reunion that fans have dreamed about since his departure in 2019.

Pochettino came agonisingly close to success during his first spell at Spurs, but silverware always eluded him. Currently in charge of the USA Men’s National Team, he is preparing to lead them into the 2026 World Cup. However, once his commitments in North America are complete, a return to Tottenham could be firmly on the cards.

Reports suggest that if Frank were dismissed before the end of the season, Joe Lewis would appoint an interim manager until summer, when the club would reassess its long-term direction.

Speculation was further fuelled after Pochettino appeared on the High Performance podcast, where he was interviewed by Jake Humphrey. The conversation reignited talk of a comeback, with Humphrey later hinting on X that the former Spurs boss may be open to a return.

No one knows what was said off-camera, but Humphrey was the one who experienced Pochettino’s presence first-hand—and the feeling was telling.

Pochettino has never hidden his affection for Tottenham, regularly speaking about the club since leaving more than six years ago. This time, though, his words carried extra weight, suggesting there may still be unfinished business.

Speaking on the podcast, he said:

“Still, the people on the street, the fans of Tottenham, really show the love and the appreciation, and I think that is why it’s so special.”

With that bond still intact, a summer homecoming—and perhaps the chance to finally lift silverware—feels closer than ever.
