Liverpool have identified Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven as a prime candidate to replace the departing Ibrahima Konaté this summer — but prising him away from Spurs looks set to be a serious battle.
The 25-year-old has cemented himself as one of the Premier League’s finest defenders, with his explosive pace, recovery ability, and commanding defensive displays drawing widespread admiration. For Liverpool, searching for a top-level centre-back to partner Virgil van Dijk, Van de Ven ticks virtually every box.
The problem? Tottenham have absolutely no intention of selling him.
New Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi reportedly views Van de Ven as central to his defensive rebuild at the club, with plans to make the Dutchman a cornerstone of his system and help him reach an even higher level. After narrowly avoiding a relegation battle last season, Tottenham are focused on moving forward — not dismantling one of their most important assets.
Former scout Mick Brown acknowledges Liverpool’s interest is entirely logical given Van de Ven’s quality, but insists Spurs will do everything in their power to keep him in North London.
With Van de Ven under contract until 2029, any club serious about signing him would need to table an extraordinary offer just to open discussions. Liverpool may want him — but Tottenham are prepared to slam the door shut.
