Thomas Frank may have overseen his final match as Tottenham manager after another disappointing defeat, this time to Newcastle United.
Spurs’ struggles deepened on Tuesday, 10 February, as they slipped to 16th in the Premier League table following a 2-1 loss in North London. The result has dragged them firmly into a relegation scrap. While Eddie Howe also arrived under pressure, Newcastle’s victory — sealed by goals from Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey after Archie Gray had equalised — eased the heat on the Magpies boss.
For Tottenham, however, the defeat feels like a pivotal and potentially defining moment in their season. Pressure is mounting on the club’s hierarchy to make yet another managerial change, with frustration boiling over among supporters.
Spurs looked devoid of ideas against Newcastle, managing just two shots on target across the entire match, and the responsibility has inevitably fallen on Frank. Many fans are now questioning the decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou, and there is growing belief that Frank could be dismissed before the upcoming clash with Arsenal on Sunday, 22 February.
Social media has been flooded with calls for the former Brentford boss to be sacked immediately, with some supporters demanding action before midnight. Given the level of anger and unrest, such a move would not come as a surprise.
Attention has already turned to potential replacements. Mauricio Pochettino has emerged as the early favourite to return, a prospect that would excite much of the fanbase. Roberto De Zerbi, Robbie Keane and Xavi are also being linked, while Enzo Maresca, Steven Gerrard and Gareth Southgate are considered outside contenders. For many Spurs fans, the priority is simply seeing a change in the dugout.
Whether the board will act remains uncertain. Despite a mounting injury list, reinforcements could have been added during the winter transfer window — but no significant fixes arrived.
Time is rapidly running out for Frank. With Arsenal next up and Tottenham badly out of form, another defeat — which appears highly possible — could leave the club with little choice but to bring his tenure to an end.
