Tottenham midfielder Jamie Donley is reportedly set to undergo a medical before completing a season-long loan move to Luton Town.
The deal is not expected to include a permanent transfer option, with Spurs still keen to monitor the 21-year-old and evaluate his future beyond the upcoming campaign.
Donley was part of Tottenham’s first-team squad during their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, where he reportedly caught the attention of manager Roberto De Zerbi.
However, competition for places in midfield has intensified following the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, making regular first-team opportunities difficult to secure.
The England youth international spent the first half of last season on loan at Stoke City but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. He was later recalled before joining Oxford United, where he produced some impressive performances despite being unable to prevent the club from suffering relegation to League One.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have significantly reshaped their midfield this summer and could also sanction the permanent departure of Pape Matar Sarr.
The Senegal midfielder, who has attracted interest from Aston Villa, is yet to feature for Spurs this season. De Zerbi recently revealed that Sarr has been dealing with a hamstring problem after receiving an extended break following the World Cup.
Tottenham have already generated more than £100 million from player sales this summer and are reportedly looking for around £20 million to part ways with Sarr.
Speaking about Sarr, De Zerbi said: “Pape is good [fitness-wise]. We have to see in the last days of the transfer market what can happen with him.”
Despite De Zerbi making it clear that no player is guaranteed regular minutes after Spurs’ busy summer of recruitment, Lucas Bergvall is now expected to remain at the club.
Bergvall had reportedly considered leaving earlier in the summer, but following discussions, he is now set to stay and fight for his place in De Zerbi’s squad.
