Pape Sarr looks set for a shock exit from Tottenham, with Juventus closing in fast on a deal for the 23-year-old midfielder. Spurs have now given the Serie A club permission to proceed, and the move could be wrapped up within days.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the two clubs have struck an agreement worth around €30m, structured as a loan with a conditional obligation to buy. That obligation would kick in if Juventus reach the Champions League or Europa League, or if Sarr plays in at least half of their matches this season. Strikingly, the whole thing has come together barely 24 hours after Juventus made their first serious approach.
Sarr himself had already given the move his blessing, with personal terms sorted out well before the clubs finished talking. The real holdup was Tottenham, who initially wanted firmer assurances that the move would become permanent. Juventus eventually tweaked the buy-obligation terms enough to win Spurs over, clearing the way for Sarr to head to Turin for a medical.
It’s a departure that may catch Spurs fans off guard, given how highly Sarr has been rated in the engine room. But regular football has become the priority, and Tottenham’s crowded midfield hasn’t been offering it. Juventus, by contrast, can offer him a genuine pathway into the side — helped along by Khephren Thuram’s knee injury, which may need surgery, and Teun Koopmeiners’ fading role despite a recent goal.
Under Luciano Spalletti, Sarr could slot in as a number eight, a role suited to his energy, ball-carrying, and two-way contribution. For Juventus, it’s a shrewd addition of a versatile, athletic midfielder; for Sarr, it could be the reset his career needs.
Tottenham, for their part, will hope the €30m fee proves good business — especially if the obligation-to-buy clause is eventually triggered. Just days after his future looked uncertain, Sarr now finds himself on the verge of pulling on the black-and-white of Juventus.
