Cody Gakpo Holds Clear-the-Air Talks With Liverpool After Failed Transfer Move

Cody Gakpo Holds Talks With Liverpool After Manchester City Move Collapses

Cody Gakpo has reportedly held talks with Liverpool’s hierarchy to resolve any issues following the collapse of his proposed move to Manchester City.

The Dutch forward was strongly linked with leaving Anfield during the summer transfer window. Tottenham had previously shown interest in signing him, before Manchester City made a late attempt to secure his services.

Reports suggested that Gakpo’s potential move to the Etihad had progressed to the stage where personal terms were discussed. However, Liverpool eventually decided against allowing the 27-year-old to leave after failing to find a suitable replacement before the transfer window closed.

According to reports from Dutch outlet Eindhovens Dagblad, Gakpo met with officials from Fenway Sports Group on Monday in what has been described as talks aimed at clearing the air following the failed transfer.

The situation is said to have surprised several people involved, as there had reportedly been an expectation that Gakpo could leave Liverpool before the deadline.

Despite the disappointment surrounding the collapsed move, Gakpo has remained at Liverpool and has already returned to training with his teammates. The report suggests that the forward is now expected to put the transfer saga behind him and concentrate on the campaign ahead.

Liverpool have strengthened their attacking options with the signing of Bradley Barcola, but Gakpo could still have an important role to play in the team. With the new arrival potentially needing time to reach full match fitness, the Dutch international could continue to feature prominently.

In the end, Gakpo was open to making the move, but Liverpool blocked his departure because they were unable to bring in a replacement. Following their talks, both the player and the club now appear ready to move forward, with Gakpo’s immediate future remaining at Anfield.
