Reports from Saudi Arabia suggest that Richard Hughes could be on his way out of Liverpool to take up a new role with Al Hilal.

The Scottish executive, who became the Reds’ sporting director in 2024, has faced growing criticism over the past two years. Now, Saudi journalist Ahmed Al-Ajlan claims Hughes is set to leave Anfield in the coming months as he lines up a move to the Saudi Pro League side.

Hughes was previously praised for orchestrating what many considered one of Liverpool’s strongest-ever summer transfer windows. However, with the team struggling to deliver this season, it appears his position may now be under threat.

Taking to X on Monday, Al-Ajlan stated that Al Hilal have already reached an agreement with Hughes to become their new sporting director, with only the formal signing of the contract left to complete.

He also added that, once finalized, Hughes’ backroom team will begin work immediately, while he is expected to officially assume his duties next summer.

That said, the report still requires confirmation from sources closer to Liverpool before it can be fully trusted. If true, though, it would mark a major behind-the-scenes shake-up at Anfield ahead of a crucial summer window.
