Liverpool are reportedly already looking ahead to the future and have identified Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara as a potential replacement for Alexis Mac Allister.
According to reports, Liverpool had a contingency plan in place during the summer transfer window in case Mac Allister decided to leave Anfield. Camara was reportedly the club’s preferred option to fill the Argentine midfielder’s place.
The Reds ultimately decided against making a move because Mac Allister remained at Liverpool. However, their interest in Camara has apparently not disappeared, with reports suggesting Liverpool could return for the Senegal international in 2027.
🇸🇳 Camara’s Chelsea move dramatically collapses
Camara was at the centre of one of the most dramatic stories of transfer deadline day.
Chelsea had reportedly agreed a deal worth around £47 million (€55m) with Monaco for the 22-year-old midfielder. He had even completed his medical and was expected to sign a six-year contract with the London club.
However, with just minutes remaining before the transfer deadline, Monaco unexpectedly pulled the plug on the deal.
Chelsea were left furious, while Camara ultimately remained at Monaco.
👀 Liverpool keeping the door open
There are also reports that Liverpool made contact with Camara’s camp and Monaco after Chelsea’s move began to collapse.
The reported message from Liverpool was essentially to wait, with the Reds potentially interested in making a move for him in a future transfer window.
Importantly, Liverpool did not sign Camara this summer, and reports indicate he was not their priority for the current window. Their interest was instead linked to the possibility of Mac Allister leaving.
For now, Camara remains a Monaco player, but Liverpool could potentially revisit the situation next summer as they continue planning for the long-term future of their midfield.
