Richarlison’s Tottenham career appears to be entering its final chapter after the Brazilian forward reached a personal terms agreement with Trabzonspor, with the Turkish club racing to get a deal over the line before their transfer window shuts on September 4.
The 29-year-old is understood to have been offered wages roughly three times what he currently earns in north London, an offer significant enough to convince him that his future lies away from Spurs. He has reportedly already been in contact with Brazilian teammates at the Super Lig club, including Fabinho, as he weighs up the move.
The transfer hinges entirely on the fee now. Tottenham have knocked back two offers from Trabzonspor, worth £15 million and £20 million respectively, and are holding out for a larger sum before they sanction his exit. Trabzonspor are expected to return with an improved bid in the coming hours as they make one final push to get the deal done.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has made little secret of the situation, confirming after Spurs’ home defeat to Newcastle that Richarlison had asked to leave the club on multiple occasions over the summer. He was left out of the matchday squad for that game, a clear signal that his path back into regular contention at Tottenham has narrowed considerably.
Richarlison would join a growing South American and Brazilian presence at Trabzonspor, most notably lining up alongside Mohamed Salah, who arrived at the club as a free agent earlier in the summer. The pairing would give the Turkish side one of the more eye-catching attacking partnerships outside Europe’s traditional top leagues.
It has been a turbulent summer for the striker. An earlier proposed return to Everton collapsed after the two parties failed to agree personal terms, closing off what many saw as his most sentimental route out of Tottenham. He finished last season as Spurs’ top Premier League scorer with 11 goals, though that form has not been enough to secure his place under De Zerbi.
Richarlison has one year left on his contract, with Tottenham holding an option to extend it by a further year, but neither side appears inclined to see that clause exercised. For now, everything rests on Trabzonspor finding the money to match Tottenham’s valuation before the Turkish window closes.
