Liverpool have reportedly made significant progress in their pursuit of AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with reports claiming the Senegal international has agreed personal terms with the Reds ahead of a possible move.
The 22-year-old was extremely close to joining Chelsea on deadline day. Chelsea had reportedly agreed a deal worth around €55m (£47m) with Monaco, and Camara had undergone a medical. However, the transfer collapsed at the last minute after Monaco decided it could not sanction his departure amid the complications surrounding Folarin Balogun’s proposed move to Everton.
Liverpool had already been monitoring Camara and reportedly contacted his camp and Monaco before the deadline, telling them to “wait” because the Reds could potentially return for him in 2027. Liverpool did not make a formal move for him during the summer window.
According to the latest report, however, Liverpool have now agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with Camara. The report claims the Reds want to bring him to Anfield in January, with discussions now focused on finalising the transfer with Monaco.
Camara has also continued to attract attention with his performances. He played a key role in Monaco’s 2–1 victory over PSG, and Liverpool were reportedly among the clubs who had scouts watching him during that match.
There is still an important caveat: Liverpool have not officially announced an agreement with Monaco, so this should currently be viewed as a reported personal-terms agreement rather than a completed transfer. Monaco’s sporting director has indicated that the club is willing to consider selling Camara in future windows.
🔴 What this means for Liverpool
If the reports are accurate, Camara could become one of Liverpool’s major midfield targets for the January 2027 window. His defensive work, physicality and ability to contribute in possession make him an attractive option for Andoni Iraola’s midfield rebuild.
In short: Liverpool are reportedly ahead in the race for Camara, personal terms are said to be agreed, and the next major step is reaching an agreement with Monaco over the transfer fee.
