Liverpool Offered Opportunity to Sign Real Madrid Legend Dani Carvajal
Liverpool have reportedly been presented with the opportunity to sign former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal on a free transfer.
The Reds did not bring in another natural right-back during the summer transfer window, meaning Jeremie Frimpong remains their main senior option in that position. Conor Bradley is currently unavailable through injury, while Ronald Araujo, who is on loan, can also operate at right-back.
Araujo impressed in that role during Liverpool’s recent victory over Ipswich Town, but the club could now have another experienced option available.
Carvajal Offered to Liverpool
According to a report from TEAMtalk, intermediaries have offered Carvajal to Liverpool, Manchester City and Fulham as they search for a new club for the veteran defender.
The 34-year-old became a free agent after ending his long association with Real Madrid at the conclusion of last season. Despite leaving the Spanish giants, Carvajal is keen to continue playing and has already held discussions with several clubs in Spain.
There has also reportedly been interest from clubs in MLS, the Saudi Pro League and elsewhere in Europe.
However, Liverpool have not yet made any firm decision or commitment regarding a possible move for the former Real Madrid star.
A Remarkable Trophy Collection
Carvajal would bring an enormous amount of experience and winning mentality to whichever club signs him.
The Spanish international has collected 29 trophies during his club and international career. His honours include six Champions League titles, four La Liga championships and six Intercontinental Cups with Real Madrid.
He was also part of Spain’s Euro 2024-winning squad.
Carvajal reportedly earned around £172,000 per week during his final contract at Real Madrid. If Liverpool were to match that salary, he would sit among the club’s higher earners.
Would Liverpool Actually Sign Him?
A move to Anfield appears unlikely at this stage.
Liverpool have generally avoided signing older players on short-term deals under the current ownership structure, particularly when those players are approaching the latter stages of their careers.
Nevertheless, Carvajal’s experience could make him an attractive temporary solution while Bradley remains injured. His leadership, defensive knowledge and extensive Champions League experience could also provide valuable depth for Andoni Iraola’s squad.
There is, however, another significant complication.
Liverpool have already reached their permitted limit of non-homegrown players for their 2026/27 Premier League squad. As a result, registering Carvajal immediately could be difficult, potentially meaning the club would have to wait until January.
For now, Liverpool are not expected to pursue the former Real Madrid defender, but if circumstances change, his experience could certainly appeal to Iraola as a short-term option.
