Gabby Agbonlahor has launched a scathing attack on Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison, questioning both the Brazilian’s quality and his attitude as speculation continues to surround his future at the club.
Richarlison has been one of Spurs’ most debated players since joining the North London side from Everton in 2022. Although he has delivered some important moments, his inconsistent performances and on-field behaviour have often divided supporters.
Former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor did not hold back when giving his opinion on the 29-year-old. He criticised Richarlison’s overall game, claiming that the forward lacks the pace to threaten defenders, struggles to hold up the ball and relies too heavily on scoring occasional goals.
Agbonlahor was equally critical of the Brazilian’s behaviour, accusing him of excessive theatrics and suggesting that his attitude and confidence do not match his achievements. He also pointed to Richarlison’s record of 75 Premier League goals in 276 appearances and questioned why he carries himself like one of the league’s elite strikers.
The former England international further suggested that Richarlison’s omission from Brazil’s World Cup squad was evidence that he is not regarded as a top-level striker.
Richarlison has been linked with a move away from Tottenham throughout the summer, with Spurs reportedly open to the possibility of letting him leave. While the English transfer window has now closed, clubs in other countries can still complete deals, leaving the door open for the Brazilian to secure a move away from North London.
The forward has endured another frustrating period, having made just one Premier League appearance this season. He was also substituted during Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Brentford, adding to the difficult situation surrounding his future.
Despite the criticism, Richarlison did make a significant contribution last season, recording a combined 15 goals and assists in the Premier League. However, concerns remained about other areas of his game.
His statistics highlighted some of those issues, with relatively low numbers for successful passes and dribbles, as well as a poor ground-duel success rate. He was also regularly dispossessed, which has contributed to the frustration many supporters have felt towards him.
With interest from clubs outside England still possible, Richarlison’s Tottenham career could soon be coming to an end. After several inconsistent seasons and continued criticism from figures such as Agbonlahor, a departure may ultimately prove to be the best solution for both the player and Spurs.
