Richarlison’s Tottenham future has taken another twist after his proposed move to Trabzonspor fell through, leaving the Brazilian in limbo despite still being under contract in north London.
Left out of Spurs’ 25-man Premier League squad after making clear he wanted out over the summer, Richarlison also turned down a new contract offer, according to Roberto De Zerbi. He’s now training away from the first team and won’t be eligible for Premier League action until squad lists can be updated in January — a striking fall from grace for a player who finished last season as Tottenham’s top league scorer.
His preferred destination was reportedly a return to Everton, with talks between the clubs tied to Spurs’ pursuit of Iliman Ndiaye — a deal that collapsed once Manchester City entered the race for the Everton winger. Trabzonspor then emerged as an alternative, and Richarlison was said to have agreed personal terms on a lucrative deal, with Mohamed Salah and Fabinho reportedly encouraging him to join them in Turkey. Tottenham were willing to sell, but the two sides couldn’t agree a fee, and the move collapsed when Turkey’s deadline passed.
TEAMtalk reports the Trabzonspor deal really fell apart because the Turkish club had no free foreign-player slot after signing Franculino Dju, and couldn’t offload another overseas player in time.
Attention has now turned elsewhere, with Saudi Arabia seen as the most likely path forward — their window stays open until October, giving Richarlison’s camp time to continue talks already underway with several clubs there. Brazil and Portugal remain outside possibilities too, though tight deadlines (Portugal’s clubs must finish business by September 15) and the likely need for a loan or separate financial arrangement make those harder to pull off.
With Tottenham having added Omar Marmoush and Mykhailo Mudryk up front, on top of Dominic Solanke and Mathys Tel, Richarlison’s path back into the side looks increasingly blocked. TEAMtalk still expects him to land somewhere before long, with Saudi Arabia the likeliest exit — a resolution neither side seems keen to delay, given Spurs’ reluctance to keep a big earner out of the squad and Richarlison’s need for regular football.
