“Tottenham Fury Grows as Controversial Refereeing Calls Deepen Relegation Fears”

Tottenham Hotspur’s difficult campaign hasn’t just been down to their own shortcomings—many fans feel refereeing decisions have also gone against them.

Spurs are still waiting for their first Premier League penalty this season, and a series of controversial calls in recent matches has only increased frustration among supporters. One notable incident came when the league’s Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel later admitted that Brian Brobbey should have been sent off during Sunderland’s 1-0 win over Spurs, after pushing Cristian Romero into Antonín Kinský’s path.

There was further debate during Tottenham’s tight victory at Molineux, where Wolves midfielder André was only shown a yellow card despite what looked like a two-footed challenge on Yves Bissouma.

Former referee Dermot Gallagher, however, defended Anthony Taylor’s decision, suggesting André had slipped and didn’t apply enough force or intent to justify a red card. Speaking to Sky Sports, he maintained the referee made the correct call because the challenge didn’t fully materialize as intended.

These moments have understandably left Spurs fans feeling frustrated, with some believing officiating has been particularly harsh on their team at a critical point in their relegation fight.

Their concerns grew even stronger in another fixture, when Everton were not awarded a penalty against West Ham, despite Mateus Fernandes seemingly handling the ball in the box during the Hammers’ 2-1 victory.
