There is an increasing feeling that things aren’t quite falling into place for Liverpool at the moment, and that concern goes beyond performances on the pitch. Arne Slot addressed fresh injury worries ahead of the trip to Old Trafford, adding to the uneasy mood surrounding the squad.
With fans still voicing frustration over ticket prices and the club’s overall direction, the latest fitness update has only deepened concerns about player availability in key areas.
Mixed news on key players
Speaking via Liverpoolfc.com, Slot gave a detailed update, beginning with goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
He explained that every returning player is a boost, especially as the injury list continues to grow, now including Mohamed Salah. The manager admitted this has been a recurring issue throughout the season.
On Alisson, Slot revealed the Brazilian is close to a return but has not yet resumed full training. A final decision will depend on medical staff, with a possible comeback either imminently or early next week. However, the club is determined not to take any unnecessary risks with his recovery.
Meanwhile, Milos Kerkez is also dealing with a minor problem, though Slot expects him to return to training within the next day or so.
Injury concerns highlight wider issue
The update follows confirmation that Salah is expected back before the season ends after a minor muscle issue, though his involvement against Manchester United remains uncertain.
That uncertainty is significant given how heavily Liverpool rely on experienced players. According to Opta, Salah, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, and Andy Robertson have made a combined 1,518 appearances—more than the rest of the squad put together.
With Alisson still not fully back and Salah a doubt, questions remain over how strong Liverpool will be for such a crucial clash in the race for a top-three finish.
There are, however, some positives. Freddie Woodman impressed against Crystal Palace, offering reassurance if needed, while Kerkez’s situation could allow Robertson another opportunity as he nears a potential farewell at Anfield.
Even so, with supporters already questioning the club’s direction, the mounting injury concerns add further pressure ahead of one of the most important fixtures of the season.
