Arsenal could hijack Manchester United’s pursuit of Sandro Tonali through a clever swap deal.

Arsenal could reignite their interest in Sandro Tonali with a creative swap-deal strategy involving Leandro Trossard, who is attracting attention from Newcastle United.

After ending their long wait for a Premier League title and finishing as Champions League runners-up, Arsenal are expected to strengthen their squad this summer. While Mikel Arteta is prioritising attacking reinforcements, midfield additions have not been ruled out amid uncertainty surrounding the futures of several players.

The Gunners were linked with Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali during the January transfer window, although those reports were quickly dismissed by the Magpies. More recently, Manchester United have emerged as strong contenders for the Italian, with reports suggesting he is a leading target following their pursuit of Atalanta’s Ederson.

However, Arsenal may still have a route into the race. Reports indicate that Newcastle are monitoring Leandro Trossard’s situation, with the Belgian winger also attracting interest from Besiktas, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Aston Villa.

Trossard enjoyed another productive campaign in north London, contributing nine goals and 10 assists across all competitions. With just over a year remaining on his contract, Arsenal could consider cashing in on the 31-year-old this summer.

Newcastle’s admiration for Trossard could potentially open the door to negotiations involving Tonali. Although the midfielder is valued at around £100 million, a player-plus-cash arrangement may offer Arsenal a way to challenge Manchester United for his signature.

Any move would still be complicated, especially after Newcastle reportedly placed a huge valuation on Tonali, partly due to a sell-on clause owed to his former club, AC Milan.
