Per The Athletic, Tottenham are closing in on their third major summer signing, with a deal possible within 72 hours.
After surviving relegation on the final day, Spurs’ hierarchy is moving fast to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s squad. Having already added free agents Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi to shore up a defense that’s leaked 183 goals over three seasons, ENIC isn’t stopping there — with targets lined up across goalkeeper, defense, midfield and attack, including talks over Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke and City’s Savinho, plus interest in goalkeeper James Trafford should Vicario depart.
Van Hecke Push Before Sunday
The priority is Van Hecke, who’s reportedly set on Spurs as his only summer option. Personal terms are believed sorted, leaving just a fee to thrash out with Brighton. GIVEMESPORT sources say Tottenham have had two bids knocked back already and are preparing a third, while the BBC reports Brighton wants £70m for the 26-year-old despite just one year left on his deal. The Athletic says Spurs want it wrapped up before Netherlands face Japan in their World Cup opener on Sunday.
Knock-On Effect at the Back
Should Van Hecke arrive alongside Senesi, De Zerbi’s center-back pool would feature both new arrivals plus Romero, Van de Ven, Dragusin, Danso and Vuskovic. Romero increasingly looks set to leave this summer, and even without him, another departure seems possible given Van Hecke, Senesi and Van de Ven would likely be first choice.
That puts 19-year-old Vuskovic — highly rated after an impressive loan at Hamburg — in a tricky spot. A Van Hecke signing could leave him short of minutes, forcing a decision between fighting for a place or seeking another move, loan or permanent.
