Tottenham Hotspur have awarded a two-year scholarship to promising right midfielder Melvyn Kabongolo.
The club’s academy has attracted attention for all the right reasons recently, as Spurs continue their search for the next big talent.
In November, 18-year-old goalkeeper Dylan Thompson signed his first professional deal with Tottenham after impressive performances in the Under-18 Premier League. Around the same time, Northern Irish midfielder Harry Hughes was offered a scholarship despite being sidelined with a long-term injury.
Those working behind the scenes at Spurs have shown a strong commitment to giving young players a platform to develop, making Kabongolo’s scholarship announcement particularly exciting for fans.
According to the Lilywhite Rose on X, Kabongolo has now joined the ranks of Tottenham’s Under-18 squad. The teenager, who has represented both England and France at the Under-15 level, is capable of playing on either wing and will aim to progress toward the first team. Excelling at Under-18 level is the first step toward fulfilling his ambitions.
Kabongolo’s scholarship follows similar offers to academy talents Oscar Sandiford in November and goalkeeper Max Sievey, highlighting the club’s continued investment in its youth.
Tottenham players on loan
For young players like Kabongolo and Sievey, the ultimate goal is first-team football, but many must first gain experience on loan. Currently, six Spurs players aged 21 or under are playing elsewhere.
Alfie Devine joined Preston North End over the summer and has contributed three goals and two assists in 20 appearances, helping the club contend for promotion.
Yang Min-Hyeok has reportedly attracted attention from Real Madrid after a strong loan spell at Portsmouth, where the 19-year-old winger scored twice and provided an assist in October.
Meanwhile, Mikey Moore is gradually adapting at Rangers, Alejo Veliz has netted five goals for Rosario Central, and 18-year-old centre-back Luka Vuskovic is impressing at Hamburg.
Jamie Donley, however, has struggled at Stoke City, making only four Championship appearances so far.
