Spurs Learn Liverpool’s Minimum Price Tag For Cody Gakpo

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their bid to sign Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo, with reports indicating the Merseyside club are willing to entertain offers for the Dutch star this summer.

Gakpo arrived at Anfield from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 in a deal worth up to £44.3 million, and has since racked up an impressive 73 goal contributions — 50 goals and 23 assists — across 180 appearances. However, his inconsistent displays throughout the 2025/26 season drew frustration from sections of the Liverpool support, with many questioning his selection ahead of highly-rated youngster Rio Ngumoha under former boss Arne Slot.

That dip in form has sparked transfer speculation, with Spurs among the clubs registering serious interest as manager Roberto De Zerbi seeks reinforcements on the left flank. Journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed that talks between the two clubs have already taken place, while BBC Sport’s Aadam Patel reports any deal would cost north of £60 million — a figure Liverpool are likely to benchmark against recent high-profile winger sales.

For his part, Gakpo has remained tight-lipped on his future, insisting his sole focus is on representing the Netherlands at the World Cup. He did acknowledge enjoying greater “freedom” in the international setup, though deliberately stopped short of elaborating further.

Liverpool reporter Dave Lynch has indicated that FSG would not stand in the way of a sale if a suitable offer materialises. Lynch admitted to being caught off guard by the club’s stance.

“I really didn’t expect it,” Lynch said. “I thought they’d give him another season, but it seems they’re open to selling if the right proposal comes in.”

Lynch also floated PSG winger Bradley Barcola as a potential Gakpo replacement, noting the French international has reportedly stalled on contract renewal talks in Paris — though multiple factors would need to fall into place for such a move to happen.

Not all observers are convinced a departure is inevitable, however. The Athletic’s James Pearce believes Gakpo will remain at Anfield, with new manager Andoni Iraola reportedly planning to build his wide attacking options around Gakpo, Ngumoha, new signing Victor Munoz, and top target Yan Diomande.
