Liverpool Close to Sealing Surprise Second Summer Signing
Liverpool are reportedly preparing an opening bid for Rayo Vallecano right-back Andrei Rațiu as Andoni Iraola continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new season.
After already strengthening with the signing of Victor Muñoz, the Reds have once again turned their attention to La Liga. Although Jeremie Frimpong is expected to remain first-choice at right-back, Iraola is keen to bring in stronger competition and sees Rațiu as the ideal addition.
The Romanian international has impressed during his time at Rayo Vallecano, making over 100 appearances and earning recognition as one of La Liga’s most underrated defenders. He also played a key role in the club’s run to the UEFA Conference League final.
Reports suggest Rayo would demand around £25 million for the 28-year-old, who only signed a new long-term contract in late 2025. However, Liverpool remain optimistic that a deal can be reached, potentially through a package that includes performance-related add-ons.
The Reds are also set to confirm the arrival of defender Jeremy Jacquet next week, while highly-rated youngster Giovanni Leoni is progressing well in his recovery and is expected to return for pre-season.
Liverpool’s recruitment drive continues as Iraola looks to strengthen key areas ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
