Having kept Spurs in the Premier League last season, the Italian has now been given full control of the club’s transfer business.
Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson have already arrived, while Tottenham continue to be linked with Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Savinho and others. It follows a second consecutive 17th-place finish for the North London club, with De Zerbi brought in to avoid relegation after disappointing spells under Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.
With the rebuild ongoing, there’s one player De Zerbi is determined to land, and Spurs are now preparing to return with a third offer.
Third Bid On The Way For Tonali
Per The Sun, Tottenham are putting together a third bid for Sandro Tonali after having two previous offers turned down. Newcastle continue to hold out for £100m, despite the midfielder already agreeing personal terms worth £230,000 a week.
De Zerbi was instrumental in identifying Tonali as a target and is said to be pushing the club to assemble the full £100m fee. That would put the decision back in Newcastle’s hands once Spurs meet their valuation.
After repeatedly falling short in past transfer windows, Tottenham appear determined not to let history repeat itself this summer.
Fernandes Also On The Radar
Spurs fans haven’t seen ambition like this so early in a window in recent memory. The midfield rebuild isn’t stopping at Tonali either, with the club also chasing West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes — another expensive target who’s also attracting interest from Manchester United.
Even so, Tottenham don’t look like backing off, keen to prove they can genuinely compete financially with the league’s bigger clubs.
Landing both Tonali and Fernandes would be huge for Tottenham, not just for the quality they’d add in midfield, but as a statement about the club’s standing after years of transfer uletdowns.
