Tottenham have already made waves this summer with a string of major signings, but reports suggest De Zerbi’s side may be eyeing an even bolder move — a run at one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents.
After Manchester City splashed £116m on Elliot Anderson, Spurs answered with ambition of their own: £85m for Mateus Fernandes, followed by a club-record £100m deal for Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali. The Tonali signing in particular signaled that Tottenham are now ready to spend at the level of England’s top clubs. The former AC Milan man is regarded as among Europe’s most complete midfielders, known for his composure, passing range, defensive nous and leadership. That reputation has been echoed by those who’ve worked with him — Eddie Howe once said he fell for Tonali’s game watching him play, and his agent has called him one of the best midfielders anywhere. Given his output at both ends of the pitch over the past two seasons, he’s expected to become central to De Zerbi’s rebuild.
But Spurs may not stop there. Alongside continued links to Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi and Milan’s Rafael Leão, the name generating the most buzz now is Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. Tottenham are reportedly big admirers and tracking his situation closely, though Arsenal are expected to offer stiff competition for his signature.
Rogers has become one of the league’s most dangerous attackers under Unai Emery, valued at around £130m thanks to his pace, dribbling, creativity and finishing. His numbers back it up — 14 goals and 16 assists in 2024/25, followed by 14 goals and 12 assists in 2025/26, cementing his status as one of England’s most rounded forwards.
For Spurs, landing Rogers would mean more than adding another good player — he could become the attacking leader the club has lacked since Harry Kane left, easing the burden on Dominic Solanke and giving De Zerbi another genuine difference-maker up front. Tonali may reshape the midfield, but Rogers could end up defining the attack for years to come.
Pulling off a £130m deal for Rogers on the back of the Tonali transfer would make this one of the most audacious transfer windows in the club’s recent history.
