Ben Jacobs: Spurs Still Working on Deals Despite Six Signings Already In
Tottenham Hotspur aren’t done strengthening this summer even after landing six new faces, according to Ben Jacobs on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast.
Spurs have already added Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka on free deals, paid £52m for Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton, and then smashed their transfer record twice within 48 hours — first with an £85m deal for Mateus Fernandes, then £100m for Sandro Tonali. Since then, though, things have quietened down in north London, prompting GMS’s senior correspondent to give an update on where things stand.
Attack Now the Focus for Spurs
Having strengthened their defence and midfield, Tottenham are now turning their attention to the forward line this summer, coming off consecutive 17th-place Premier League finishes.
Randal Kolo Muani has left following the end of his loan, and Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski, and Xavi Simons remain sidelined with knee injuries, while Richarlison’s future at the club is still up in the air.
Manchester City’s Savinho remains Tottenham’s top attacking target, though Jacobs noted on the podcast that he’s not the only option being considered.
He explained that supporters have been questioning the recent lack of activity given how busy the club had been earlier in the window, but stressed it isn’t about setting a new club record every single day, pointing to the rapid Fernandes and Tonali deals as the exception rather than the rule. He added that Spurs are still steadily working their way up the pitch in terms of priorities.
According to Jacobs, the goalkeeper position is sorted following Kinsky’s contract extension and Dubravka’s arrival, and with defensive and midfield signings also completed, the focus has now shifted to bringing in a first-choice left winger or forward. He confirmed that discussions over Savinho continue, but noted Crysencio Summerville is also being tracked, with Manchester United also interested in the winger.
Spurs Face Competition for Summerville
Tottenham are considering a move for Summerville, the Dutch international valued at around £30m and described as “elite,” but they’ll need to move quickly given the competition for his signature.
United have reportedly made him their No. 1 target in attack, contingent on what happens with Marcus Rashford, while Roma have also opened talks with his camp over a possible switch away from West Ham.
Savinho remains the priority target, with progress expected on that front soon. Still, given West Ham’s relegation last season, the Summerville situation is one worth keeping an eye on and shouldn’t be dismissed.
