Tottenham Hotspur have hit the ground running this summer, already completing six signings as Roberto De Zerbi overhauls his squad in north London.
The Italian boss has bolstered nearly every area of the pitch—Martin Dubravka joins on a free transfer to add depth in goal, while Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, and Andy Robertson have all been brought in to shore up the defense. Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes have meanwhile added fresh legs in midfield.
De Zerbi’s business isn’t finished, though. Attention has now turned to the forward line, with Savinho, Rafael Leão, and Eli Kroupi Junior all being tipped for a switch to N17.
Seven out, more to follow
Rebuilding a squad inevitably means clearing players out too. Since last season, Tottenham have seen Yves Bissouma, Alejo Veliz, Alfie Devine, Radu Dragusin, Luka Vuskovic, Joao Palhinha (loan spell concluded), and Randal Kolo Muani (loan spell concluded) all leave the club.
The most lucrative of those exits was Vuskovic, with Brighton paying £46m for the teenage centre-back—a player who never featured for Spurs’ first team but was regarded as a major talent for the future.
Now another highly rated youngster appears to be heading for the exit: Lucas Bergvall.
Bergvall pushing for exit
The Swedish midfielder arrived from Djurgårdens for just £8.5m two years ago and went on to sweep the club’s end-of-season player awards in 2024/25, standing out in a chaotic campaign that saw Spurs finish 17th in the league yet still claim the Europa League title.
The following season brought three separate managers through the door, and Bergvall—once branded unplayable by Pep Guardiola—struggled to nail down a regular starting berth. With Spurs spending £185m on Tonali and Fernandes for his position, and no European football to look forward to, the 20-year-old is now pushing for an exit in search of consistent game time.
Newcastle join the chase
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, gave an update on the situation: Nottingham Forest have already had a £38m bid turned down, and Newcastle have since joined the race, seeing their own £46m offer rejected as well.
Romano explained that Bergvall is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, having told the club he wants to be playing regularly. His view is that following the signings of Fernandes and Tonali, and with no European campaign on offer, he has no interest in a season split between the bench and brief substitute appearances. Both Forest and Newcastle are said to be actively pursuing a deal and remain in ongoing talks with Spurs, making it a situation worth keeping an eye on.
Bergvall won’t be the only one moving on, either—Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario are also expected to depart, while the situations of Richarlison, Pape Matar Sarr, and a number of the club’s younger players are still up in the air.
