Tottenham Hotspur look set to add reinforcements out wide and up front this summer as Roberto De Zerbi pushes forward with his ambitious squad rebuild ahead of the new campaign.
Strengthening the flanks sits high on the club’s list of priorities, with Savinho standing out as the primary target. Spurs have had their eye on the Brazilian since last summer, and a move worth around £60 million is now believed to be edging closer, with the winger reportedly having agreed personal terms and eager to make the switch. Tottenham are said to be simply waiting on Manchester City to line up a replacement before the deal can go through.
While Savinho has consistently been near the top of Tottenham’s list, he wasn’t the only wide option under consideration—Cody Gakpo, Marcus Rashford, and AC Milan’s Rafael Leão were also assessed. TEAMtalk report, however, that Spurs have now ramped up their pursuit of Savinho after opting against chasing other forward targets, Leão included.
Per the report, Leão’s camp had put him forward to Tottenham earlier in the window as they weighed up a possible Premier League switch. Spurs, while acknowledging his talent, ultimately felt he wasn’t the right match for what De Zerbi is trying to build long-term.
De Zerbi himself is said to have been heavily involved in shaping the club’s transfer strategy, pushing hard for Savinho as the player best suited to his style of attacking play. The Italian is reportedly drawn to the Brazilian’s existing Premier League pedigree and sees plenty of untapped potential in the 22-year-old, making him the clear preference.
Even with Savinho as the priority, Tottenham are keeping other attacking options on their radar. Fabrizio Romano recently called Savinho Spurs’ top three choices for the wing spot this summer, effectively their only real target, while noting that Tottenham like what they see in Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, though the Reds have no plans at present to sanction his exit. Journalist Ben Jacobs has added that should Liverpool’s stance shift, Tottenham would be well-positioned among those chasing Gakpo’s signature.
Marcus Rashford also remains firmly on Spurs’ radar, with reports suggesting Tottenham are willing to match the England international’s £325,000-a-week wage demands and are keeping close tabs on his situation.
That said, Rashford is still thought to prefer a move abroad to a club playing in the Champions League. Tottenham did get some encouraging news, though, after Romano reported the forward has ruled out a move to Fenerbahce despite the Turkish club’s strong interest—keeping other possible destinations in play.
