Dorrington Pulls Plug on Poland Move in Shock U-Turn
Tottenham youngster Alfie Dorrington has stunned observers with a late change of heart over his future, scrapping a near-complete permanent switch to Polish Ekstraklasa side Pogon Szczecin.
The 21-year-old academy product looked set for a move abroad after Spurs and the Polish club agreed a transfer fee. With terms settled, Dorrington was due to fly out for a medical and put the finishing touches on the deal. Instead, the move has fallen apart after the defender had a sudden change of mind, informing both clubs he no longer wanted to go through with it.
Dorrington’s focus has since shifted to staying in England, with his representatives already exploring options closer to home that would still give him a route to regular first-team football. The U-turn leaves Tottenham needing to rethink their plans for the youngster, having previously been open to letting him leave permanently to aid his development.
Comfortable on the ball and well regarded for his ability to play out from defence, Dorrington — who has represented England at youth level — is expected to draw interest from a number of Championship and League One clubs in need of defensive reinforcements.
With the Poland switch now off the table, talks are set to pick up pace in the coming weeks as his camp works to find him a new home in England.
