Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall looks increasingly set to remain at the club this summer, despite interest from a number of Premier League sides.
There had been uncertainty over the 20-year-old’s future following Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival, particularly after Tottenham strengthened their midfield. However, respected Spurs figure John Wenham of The Lilywhite Rose now believes Bergvall is likely to stay and compete for a regular place.
Bergvall’s prominent role during Tottenham’s recent media day at Hotspur Way has further fuelled that belief. The Swedish midfielder featured heavily in promotional material for Sky Sports, TNT Sports and the Premier League ahead of the new campaign.
Wenham suggested that Bergvall’s involvement could be a sign that he remains firmly in De Zerbi’s plans. He also pointed to the midfielder’s regular appearances during pre-season and Tottenham’s decision to reject Nottingham Forest’s approach as further evidence that Spurs want to keep him.
Bergvall joined Tottenham from Djurgarden in 2024 and has already made 78 appearances for the club. Despite being only 20, he has continued to develop into an important part of the squad.
However, his future became less certain after Spurs added experienced midfielders such as Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. The increased competition raised questions about whether Bergvall would receive enough playing time under De Zerbi.
Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United have reportedly shown interest, with Forest potentially returning for the player after missing out on Tijjani Reijnders. Tottenham, however, have so far refused to entertain offers for Bergvall.
There is even a suggestion that Spurs would rather consider selling Pape Sarr before allowing Bergvall to leave.
