Thomas Frank has provided an update on Cristian Romero’s suspension situation after the FA charged the defender following his red card in Tottenham’s match against Liverpool.
Spurs are set to receive a major boost on Wednesday night as Xavi Simons returns for the Premier League clash with Bournemouth, having completed a three-game suspension.
The Dutch midfielder’s comeback comes at a crucial time, with Tottenham struggling for creativity after scoring only twice in their last three outings.
However, focus has also been on Romero, amid fears the centre-back could be hit with an extra ban following his dismissal against Liverpool.
Frank clarifies Romero situation
Romero’s reaction after being shown a second yellow card put him at risk of further disciplinary action, with the FA charging him for delaying his exit from the pitch and confronting the referee. This left Spurs waiting anxiously for clarity, as another suspension would have further weakened their defence.
But speaking via football.london, Frank confirmed that Tottenham have appealed the charge and that Romero will be available for the Bournemouth match.
Spurs keen to retain their captain
Frank will be keen to keep his captain available as he attempts to stabilise Tottenham’s erratic form. Spurs currently sit 13th in the Premier League — a disappointing position for a side with ambitions of competing near the top.
With a packed schedule across several competitions, maintaining the availability of key players has become crucial as Tottenham look to revive their season.
