RB Leipzig teenager Yan Diomande has all but declared his dream of joining Paris Saint-Germain, dealing a potential blow to Liverpool’s summer transfer plans.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger enjoyed a spectacular debut Bundesliga campaign, contributing 12 goals and eight assists — form that attracted attention from Liverpool, Arsenal, and Champions League winners PSG.
New Reds boss Andoni Iraola is understood to be targeting wide reinforcements this summer, with Diomande, PSG’s Bradley Barcola, and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen among his priority options. The Spanish manager’s attacking, winger-focused style — which played a key part in Antoine Semenyo’s rise at Bournemouth before his January move to Manchester City, and brought out the best in Rayan and Justin Kluivert — could have made Liverpool an appealing destination for Diomande.
However, the teenager’s own words may have already revealed where his heart lies.
“PSG is a team I’ve loved since I was a child,” Diomande said. “It would be a pleasure to play there — one of the biggest clubs. With French being spoken there, I think adapting wouldn’t be difficult.”
He added that his immediate focus is on representing Ivory Coast at this summer’s World Cup, leaving his club future to be resolved afterwards.
Diomande also named Kylian Mbappé among his footballing idols alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldo Nazário, and Vinícius Júnior — another nod that points firmly in PSG’s direction.
