PSG chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi has refused to close the door on Bradley Barcola leaving the club, giving Liverpool fresh hope of completing a potential transfer.
The 23-year-old winger has reportedly been Liverpool’s top attacking target this summer, with the Reds said to be willing to spend around £120m on the French international. However, that figure is still below PSG’s reported £145m valuation.
PSG chief keeps Barcola exit possibility alive
Barcola was left on the bench for PSG’s 2-1 UEFA Super Cup victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday, and Al Khelaifi’s comments after the game have only intensified speculation about his future.
Asked about the winger’s situation, the PSG president told Canal+ that he could not confirm whether Barcola would stay or leave, adding that the player remains a PSG player for now.
Rather than shutting down the rumours, Al Khelaifi’s response appears to leave the possibility of a transfer very much open.
Liverpool still have work to do
Liverpool may now have an opportunity to push forward with a deal, but PSG are unlikely to let Barcola leave cheaply. The Reds would still need to make a huge financial commitment to convince the French champions to sell.
Barcola’s lack of involvement in the Super Cup could also be significant, particularly with reports suggesting Luis Enrique may not view him as an automatic starter this season.
PSG’s reported interest in Ferran Torres and Mika Godts has added even more fuel to speculation that the French winger could be on his way out.
With the summer transfer window entering its final weeks, a decision on Barcola’s future is getting closer. If Liverpool are prepared to increase their offer, there is now a genuine possibility that negotiations could eventually lead to an agreement.
It may take another few bids and plenty of negotiation, but the door to Anfield certainly appears to be open. 🔴👀
