Fabrizio Romano confirms Torres’ £42.7m PSG move, edging Liverpool closer to Barcola
Ferran Torres has now been given the green light to travel to Paris to undergo his medical with PSG.
According to Fabrizio Romano on X, the Champions League holders have struck an agreement worth €50m (£42.7m) guaranteed for the Spanish winger. It’s a deal that, on paper, could work in Liverpool’s favour as they continue pushing for Bradley Barcola.
With Torres set to arrive, PSG would effectively have their right-wing options covered, even if Anfield target Ibrahim Mbaye were to depart the club. More significantly, though, it represents genuine progress in Liverpool’s ongoing talks with the French champions over Barcola.
Should PSG follow this up by bringing in Ajax’s Mika Godts too, as is widely expected, Luis Enrique would find himself with plenty of attacking depth to call upon. Given the Spanish coach’s known reluctance to keep unsettled players around, there’s good reason to think PSG’s resolve over Barcola’s £145m valuation could start to weaken.
As for what it might actually take to get a deal for Barcola done, Romano has suggested to CaughtOffside that even €120m (£102.5m) might not be sufficient to satisfy both parties. That’s understandable in a sense — asking PSG to knock £42.5m off their asking price is a big ask, particularly if they want to walk away from talks with their valuation largely intact.
That said, a compromise figure somewhere around £120m (€140.3m) doesn’t seem far-fetched. In reality, unless PSG believe another club is prepared to match their £145m demand, this likely represents their best opportunity to land a big-money fee for the forward. With his contract running down to 2028, Barcola’s price tag is only likely to decrease in future windows.
