Manchester United could derail Liverpool’s pursuit of PSG attacker Ibrahim Mbaye

Manchester United could derail Liverpool’s pursuit of PSG attacker Ibrahim Mbaye.

Manchester United have intensified their interest in Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ibrahim Mbaye as Michael Carrick looks to strengthen his attacking options before the transfer window shuts.

United are keen to provide greater competition for Amad on the right wing and want a versatile forward capable of playing in multiple attacking roles, much like Bryan Mbeumo.

The 18-year-old Mbaye fits that description perfectly while also offering significant potential for the future. Importantly, the teenager is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League, which could put United in a strong position if PSG are prepared to negotiate.

Man United hold direct talks over Mbaye

According to Football FanCast, United have opened direct discussions with Mbaye’s representatives to assess his desire to move to Old Trafford and establish his potential wage demands.

The young winger is keen to continue playing Champions League football, something United can provide this season.

Mbaye made history at PSG by becoming the club’s youngest-ever starter at 16 years, six months and 23 days. He has since accumulated 41 senior appearances for the French giants.

United are also familiar with his ability, having watched him score against them in their recent 1-1 pre-season draw.

There has been further encouragement for the Red Devils, with FourFourTwo reporting that Liverpool have cooled their interest after being put off by Mbaye’s overall price while also pursuing Bradley Barcola. The PSG youngster is reportedly valued at around €40m-€50m.

Mbaye could be an ideal signing for United

Mbaye could represent the kind of long-term investment United should seriously consider.

With Amad and Mbeumo already available, the teenager would not be expected to immediately become a key player. Instead, Carrick could gradually develop him while benefiting from his pace, direct running and versatility across both wings.

PSG’s wealth of attacking options could also make a move possible. Mbaye faces competition from stars such as Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué and Barcola, potentially limiting his opportunities in Paris.

The reported €50m price tag remains a concern, however. Paying such a fee for an 18-year-old would represent a considerable gamble, especially with United needing reinforcements in other areas.

Still, Liverpool potentially stepping away from the race would remove a major competitor, while Mbaye’s reported willingness to move to England gives Manchester United genuine hope of completing the deal.
