Tottenham plot hijack for Everton defensive target as Spurs target impressive Spence replacement.

Tottenham are reportedly considering a move for Crystal Palace right-back Daniel Munoz as they look to find a quality replacement for Djed Spence following his £30million move to Inter Milan.

Spence’s departure came as something of a surprise after his strong performances at the World Cup, but Spurs decided to cash in on the England international. Following the transfer, Spence thanked the club, his teammates, staff and supporters for their support, describing his time in north London as a “special chapter” before beginning a new challenge in Italy.

His exit leaves Roberto De Zerbi with Pedro Porro, Andy Robertson and Destiny Udogie as his main natural full-back options, while Archie Gray and Ben Davies can also provide cover. Micky van de Ven has previously operated at left-back for the Netherlands as well.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham have now identified Palace standout Munoz as a potential addition to provide competition for Porro.

The Colombian has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most effective right-backs since joining Crystal Palace in 2024. He has contributed 27 goals and assists in 108 appearances for the Eagles and was named Man of the Match in Palace’s famous 2025 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

Munoz also played an important role in Palace’s Community Shield and Conference League successes last season before carrying his excellent form onto the international stage. The 30-year-old scored twice in five appearances for Colombia at the World Cup.

Palace set Munoz asking price

Palace are reportedly demanding more than £20m for Munoz, with the defender having just two years left on his current contract.

The Colombian has previously spoken about his ambition to eventually play for a bigger club, although a move to Tottenham would mean giving up the opportunity to compete in the Europa League this season.

Spurs are not alone in monitoring the defender. Everton have also shown interest in Munoz, while Nottingham Forest are understood to be admirers of the player.

Everton have already completed business with Palace this summer, with Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil involved in a rare swap deal.

However, Everton boss David Moyes is reportedly unsure whether Munoz would be comfortable operating as a traditional full-back rather than in his preferred wing-back role.

That could also be a consideration for De Zerbi, given Tottenham’s preference for a back four. Nevertheless, Munoz’s experience and attacking quality could make him an attractive option as Spurs look to replace Spence and strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes.
