Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the departure of Curtis Jones, with Inter Milan said to have reached a verbal agreement worth around €35 million (£30 million) for the midfielder.
The deal is reportedly progressing quickly, with Jones also understood to have agreed personal terms with the Italian club. A medical is expected to be scheduled soon, with the final paperwork still to be completed before the transfer can officially be confirmed.
Jones, who is 25 years old, has been at Liverpool since joining the club’s academy as a youngster. He worked his way through the youth ranks before breaking into the first team and becoming a regular member of the squad.
However, the midfielder is now entering the final year of his Liverpool contract, and negotiations over a new deal have reportedly failed to produce an agreement. With Inter showing strong interest and Jones reportedly open to the move, Liverpool have decided to consider a permanent transfer.
Inter Milan have been pursuing Jones for some time and are believed to see him as an important addition to their midfield. The Italian side previously made a lower offer, but Liverpool rejected it before the two clubs reportedly moved closer to an agreement.
Jones’ potential departure would bring an end to his long association with Liverpool. He has made more than 200 appearances for the Reds, scoring important goals and contributing to several successful seasons.
If the transfer is completed, Jones will begin a new chapter in Serie A with Inter Milan, while Liverpool will have to decide whether to reinvest the transfer fee in another midfielder. A big decision for Liverpool.
