Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool are pushing to complete a deal for Bradley Barcola as soon as possible, while a move for Ibrahim Mbaye appears less likely at the moment.
Barcola remains Liverpool’s main target to replace Mohamed Salah. The Paris Saint-Germain winger is reportedly open to joining the Reds and has been left out of PSG’s plans alongside fellow target Mbaye while their futures are resolved.
Speaking on GIVEMESPORT’s social media, Romano played down suggestions that Liverpool are preparing a huge double deal but confirmed that negotiations for Barcola are progressing.
He said Liverpool are expected to be one of the busiest clubs during the final days of the transfer window, adding that discussions between the Reds and PSG over Barcola are taking place daily.
Romano explained that Liverpool are working towards reaching a financial agreement, with Barcola keen on the move. He also expects the club to bring in another winger, particularly if Cody Gakpo completes a transfer to Tottenham.
Mbaye remains one of the names being considered, with Liverpool having held talks with his agent Jorge Mendes. However, the player’s valuation remains a major stumbling block.
Romano does not expect Liverpool to spend around £171million on both Barcola and Mbaye. Instead, he believes the prices would need to fall, with Barcola remaining the clear priority and Mbaye potentially considered later if the conditions become favourable.
Potential discounts could benefit Liverpool
Liverpool could potentially benefit from lower asking prices if negotiations for both players continue into the final days of the window.
Barcola is currently valued at around £145million, although reports suggest PSG could eventually accept a fee closer to £120million. That would still represent a huge investment but would fall short of the British transfer record.
Mbaye is reportedly valued at approximately £50million, though his asking price could potentially drop to between £30million and £45million.
For now, Liverpool remain firmly focused on getting Barcola through the door, while Mbaye appears to be a secondary option that could become more realistic if PSG reduce their demands.
