Spurs eye Son’s Korea teammate as the answer to their goal drought, but Besiktas won’t make it easy

Tottenham’s search for goals is becoming a real worry. Richarlison, Joao Palhinha and Cristian Romero, the club’s three top scorers last season, have all left, and fans are asking where Roberto De Zerbi’s side will find enough goals this term.

Omar Marmoush has looked lively around the edge of the box but still hasn’t shown the cold finishing the team needs. Dominic Solanke is also struggling to rediscover his best form after missing all of last season through injury. With those problems showing, recent reports have claimed that Spurs want a top-quality striker in January, especially now that Richarlison is gone.

One name linked with the club is Besiktas forward Oh Hyeon-gyu. Turkish Football reports that Tottenham see the South Korean as a main target for the winter window, and that Heung-min Son has recommended his international teammate to the club. Spurs are said to have watched the 25-year-old closely this season, liking his strength in the air and his intense pressing.

The report says the club want a physical, aggressive centre-forward who can link play, tie down opposing defenders and give the attack a focal point. Oh is seen as a strong fit for that role and for the style De Zerbi wants his team to play.

Getting him won’t be easy, though. Oh arrived at Besiktas in the summer of 2025 and has scored nine goals with six assists in 29 appearances, which is a modest return. Even so, the Turkish side are reportedly standing firm and would be very reluctant to sell him midway through the season. Spurs would likely need to table a generous offer, especially as Besiktas paid around €14 million (£12m) for him just over a year ago.
