Harry Kane has dropped his strongest hint yet about how he views a possible Premier League return, with the Bayern Munich striker looking more settled than ever on continuing his career in Germany rather than rushing back to England anytime soon.
The England captain has continued to attract transfer talk in recent months, with Manchester United previously linked as suitors. His old club Tottenham have also stayed in the conversation given Kane’s status as a Spurs legend and the club’s all-time top scorer.
But Kane’s latest remarks suggest a Premier League comeback isn’t what’s occupying his mind right now. At 33, he seems relaxed about what comes next and fully locked in on Bayern, where his time since leaving Tottenham in 2023 has been hugely productive.
Kane joined Munich in search of the trophies that eluded him throughout his Spurs career. His debut season ended without a Bundesliga title, but he’s since helped restore Bayern to the summit of German football, firing them to back-to-back league titles and playing a key role in their 2025/26 DFB-Pokal win.
Leaving England after nearly his entire senior career for one of Europe’s biggest clubs was one of the defining moves of Kane’s career, and at the time many assumed Germany would only be a stepping stone before an eventual Premier League return — driven by his hunger for silverware and scoring records. His success in Munich has since muddied those assumptions.
With his current deal entering its final year, uncertainty naturally surrounds his next step. Barcelona have been credited with monitoring him, and Saudi side Al Hilal have also been mentioned as interested parties this window. Bayern’s stance, though, is simple: keep hold of their star striker for as long as they can.
The club have already signaled willingness to discuss a new contract, and Kane appears unbothered by the swirling speculation. Speaking to Kicker on Tuesday, August 18, he confirmed that contract talks with Bayern would begin shortly following his post-World Cup break, noting that both sides had agreed to wait until after the tournament and his holiday before sitting down, and that timing was still being worked out. He stressed that there’s no urgency on either side, describing himself and the club as calm about the situation.
Those comments matter because they show Kane isn’t pushing for an exit — instead, player and club seem content to work through things together before any decision on his long-term future is made. His form has backed that up too: after extra rest following England’s run at the 2026 World Cup, Kane returned to pre-season duty and featured in Bayern’s 4-2 friendly win over Heidenheim, showing no signs that the uncertainty has crept into his performances.
A return to Tottenham would spark enormous excitement among supporters given his legendary status at the club, and speculation about a reunion has never fully gone away since his emotional 2023 departure. United remain another name mentioned as a possible destination if Kane ever does decide to come back to English football, given his pedigree and proven scoring record.
There’s also a historic pull that could make a Premier League return tempting: Kane sits 47 goals behind Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record of 260. A return to England with anything like his usual scoring rate would put that record within realistic reach.
Even so, his latest comments suggest that milestone alone isn’t enough to pull him away from Munich right now. For the time being, Kane looks settled at Bayern and open to negotiating a new deal, with talks set to begin soon. The coming months should make clear whether he extends his increasingly successful spell in Germany or eventually leaves the door open for a different move. For Tottenham, United and anyone else watching, the takeaway is straightforward — a Premier League return for Kane remains possible down the line, but Bayern is where his focus lies for now.
