Tottenham’s Folarin Balogun Interest Could Mean Top Attacking Target Has Fallen Through
Tottenham’s sudden interest in Folarin Balogun could indicate that one of their preferred attacking targets is no longer available, according to Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold.
Spurs made an impressive start to the summer window, completing six signings in defence and midfield. However, Sandro Tonali remains their latest arrival, with no new player joining since July 6.
The lack of attacking reinforcements is becoming a major concern for Roberto De Zerbi. Dominic Solanke struggled with injuries last season, while Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski are still returning to full fitness. Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert are also expected to miss the start of the campaign with ACL injuries.
De Zerbi has acknowledged the need for more attacking options and previously teased another major signing as Tottenham’s next “bomba.”
Savinho remains one of Spurs’ main targets, with talks continuing with Manchester City. However, De Zerbi’s comments suggested that another attacking player could also be on the way.
Tottenham have been linked with several forwards this summer, including Victor Osimhen, Cody Gakpo, Dusan Vlahovic, Antonio Nusa and Balogun.
Reports now claim Spurs are accelerating their interest in Balogun, with a potential £52m move being considered. Gold, however, points out that Tottenham previously showed no interest in the former Arsenal striker.
That sudden change could suggest that one of their original first-choice targets has become unattainable, forcing Spurs to consider alternative options before the transfer window closes.
