Liverpool have reportedly suffered a setback in their hunt for a new winger, with one of their alternative targets picking up a serious injury.
The Reds had been keeping tabs on Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, valued at around £70 million, but the Gambian international is now facing two to three months on the sidelines after sustaining a leg injury.
The injury occurred during Brighton’s win over Roma, stemming from a challenge with Bryan Cristante. Whether the 21-year-old will need surgery remains uncertain.
The blow is a significant one for Brighton too, who were already without another key winger, Kaoru Mitoma, through injury.
As far as Liverpool are concerned, the injury effectively rules out any move for Minteh before the window shuts. Attention is expected to stay on their other wing targets instead, namely PSG duo Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.
A return to the Minteh pursuit isn’t out of the question further down the line once he’s back to full fitness, but for this summer at least, the injury looks to have ended his chances of an Anfield move.
