Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered the race to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, with Spurs looking to beat Aston Villa to the Senegal international’s signature.
The move comes after Tottenham’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening day of the Premier League season, highlighting the need for further attacking reinforcements.
After strengthening their midfield and defence with players such as Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, Spurs are now turning their attention to improving their forward line.
According to reports, Tottenham see Jackson as a potential solution to their attacking problems and are prepared to challenge Aston Villa for his services.
However, Spurs face a potential selection dilemma as they are also reportedly pursuing Manchester City forwards Savinho and Omar Marmoush. Marmoush can operate either centrally or on the wing, meaning Tottenham could potentially use him in a wide role while Jackson provides the option at centre-forward.
Aston Villa Also Pushing for Jackson
Aston Villa appear keen to strengthen their attack, particularly with Ollie Watkins’ future increasingly uncertain.
Watkins was left out of Villa’s squad amid ongoing talks with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Watkins has agreed personal terms with the Saudi club, with Al Hilal expected to make another bid.
Villa are already working on finding a replacement, and Jackson could emerge as one of their preferred targets.
The Chelsea striker has experience in the Premier League and could provide either Tottenham or Villa with a proven attacking option as both clubs look to strengthen before the transfer window closes.
With both Spurs and Villa reportedly interested, the battle for Jackson’s signature could become one of the more intriguing transfer stories of the final days of the window.
