Barcola-to-Liverpool Move Reaches “Final Stages,” Romano Reports Thursday

Liverpool’s chase of Bradley Barcola appears to be nearing its conclusion, according to the latest word from Fabrizio Romano on Thursday morning. The PSG forward has been the club’s top summer target throughout the window and has reportedly already agreed personal terms over a move to Anfield.

Momentum behind the deal has been building over the past two days, with David Ornstein putting the odds at somewhere between 85 and 90 percent and Ben Jacobs suggesting an agreement could be wrapped up before the weekend is out. Romano added further weight to that on Thursday, posting early in the morning that the negotiations have now reached the clubs’ highest officials and that a breakthrough is expected imminently, with the deal now in its closing stages.

That update follows word from The Times’ Paul Joyce on Wednesday night that PSG have lowered their valuation to around £115m — a notable drop from the roughly £145.7m figure Jacobs had floated earlier in proceedings.

After a long-running saga, it finally looks like Liverpool will get this one over the line before next Tuesday’s deadline, and potentially for considerably less than first feared. The player’s own keenness to join, combined with PSG leaving him out of their opening three matches of the season, has strengthened the Reds’ hand throughout the negotiation. Even at the reduced fee, the 23-year-old would still rank as the club’s second-most expensive signing ever behind Alexander Isak, a reflection of just how inflated the current market has become.

Barcola operates mainly on the left, which has revived talk of a possible departure for Cody Gakpo, though his versatility across the front line means he could equally be deployed on the right as the long-awaited successor to Mo Salah. With several well-sourced journalists now treating this as a matter of timing rather than doubt, official confirmation from both clubs should follow before the weekend is done.
