Liverpool Make Late Move for Malo Gusto but Fail to Reach Agreement
Liverpool reportedly made a surprise late attempt to bring Chelsea defender Malo Gusto to Anfield before the transfer deadline, but the proposed move did not go through.
The Reds were said to be interested in signing the French right-back on a loan deal as they continued to explore options for strengthening their defence. However, Chelsea were not prepared to let Gusto leave temporarily and instead preferred a permanent transfer.
Liverpool were reportedly unwilling to agree to Chelsea’s terms, as they wanted a straightforward loan arrangement without a compulsory option or obligation to buy the player. Chelsea, meanwhile, were only willing to seriously consider a deal that would lead to Gusto leaving the club permanently.
The failed move highlights Liverpool’s continued search for solutions at right-back following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Although the club has already brought in Jeremie Frimpong, they were still exploring the possibility of adding another player to provide more depth and defensive strength in the position.
Gusto emerged as a possible target because of his experience and ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch. However, with Chelsea standing firm on their demands and Liverpool unwilling to meet the conditions for a permanent deal, an agreement could not be reached.
As things stand, Gusto is expected to remain at Chelsea. His role could still depend on competition from Reece James and other options available to the club, but Liverpool’s late attempt to secure his signature ultimately ended without success.
