With the transfer window still open in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and a handful of other leagues, Tottenham are continuing their efforts to find a buyer for Richarlison.
Reports on Wednesday revealed that Trabzonspor had turned down two proposals for the Brazilian as they looked to bring him to Turkey before the September 4 deadline.
It was subsequently reported that the 29-year-old had already agreed personal terms with the Turkish side and was eager to leave Spurs. However, the situation has now taken an unexpected turn following the latest developments at Trabzonspor.
Tottenham dealt blow as Trabzonspor agree deal for Richarlison replacement
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Trabzonspor have reached an agreement to sign Midtjylland forward Franculino Dju.
The 22-year-old striker is scheduled to undergo his medical with the Turkish club, with the deal expected to be completed shortly.
Romano posted on X: “Franculino to Trabzonspor, here we go! Verbal agreement in place and medical booked for the new striker. All set to be signed in the next 24 hours.”
The development could be a major setback for Tottenham, with only around 24 hours remaining before the Turkish transfer window shuts.
Roberto De Zerbi could now face a difficult situation if Richarlison remains at the club.
The Brazilian’s emotional reaction on Monday has already created tension with some supporters, making his potential return to the squad an intriguing prospect.
De Zerbi has repeatedly stressed that he does not want players who are unwilling to fully commit to his project. If Richarlison’s move falls through, however, the Spurs boss could find himself having to manage a player who appears determined to leave.
The Italian will also need to make sure the situation does not become a distraction or negatively affect the dressing room.
There could still be an escape route for Tottenham, though. The Saudi Pro League transfer window remains open until September 6, giving Spurs a little more time to find a solution for the Brazilian.
