Spurs and Manchester United shared the spoils in a dramatic 1-1 draw. Tottenham were sharper and more threatening early on, but couldn’t turn their dominance into goals. United grew into the contest after the break and took the lead through Bryan Mbeumo, and Spurs were then reduced to ten men when Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off. United couldn’t make their extra man count, and Dominic Solanke popped up late to snatch an equaliser, leaving the hosts frustrated.
At the back, Antonin Kinsky (7) had little to do in the first half but made several key stops after the restart, and was powerless against Mbeumo’s goal. Archie Gray (6) was comfortable early on, but struggled once Matheus Cunha, Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes found room on his side, and United’s opener came down that flank. Jan Paul van Hecke (6) was strong in the air and made timely interceptions, and he dealt with a dangerous Shaw cross, but Mbeumo’s movement troubled him and his booking for a foul on Fernandes led into the sequence that ended with Bentancur’s red card.
Marcos Senesi (7.5) impressed in place of Micky van de Ven, with accurate forward passing during Spurs’ fast start and calm, disciplined defending when the pressure came later. Destiny Udogie (7) cut out a dangerous cross aimed at an unmarked man at the far post, made another well-timed intervention to stop Fernandes getting into the box, and helped stretch United’s shape with his forward runs.
In midfield, Lucas Bergvall (6) pressed energetically and forced an early Kobbie Mainoo error, but faded after half-time, which was understandable given his recent international duty. Sandro Tonali (7) found the holding role tough as gaps opened between midfield and defence, though he made up for a quiet second half by delivering the cross for Solanke’s equaliser. Conor Gallagher (7.5) brought relentless energy, pressing, winning second balls and getting involved in many of Spurs’ attacks, even if his influence dipped once United made changes.
Further forward, Mohammed Kudus (6.5) was direct and lively early and went close from a Savio cutback, but faded after the break and was substituted. Solanke (7) wasted an early chance created by Bergvall’s pressing and put another effort off target in the second half, but redeemed himself by heading Tonali’s cross home, a goal that could boost his confidence. Savio (7.5) was among the liveliest players for the first hour, using pace and dribbling on the left to beat his marker repeatedly and set up Kudus, though his final ball let him down and he was less effective after switching to the right.
Off the bench, Bentancur (1) had a disastrous cameo, coming on in the 66th minute and being sent off after an incident with Shaw, which left Spurs with ten men and a much harder job. Van de Ven (5) replaced Udogie as Tottenham shifted to a back three and offered extra defensive cover. Omar Marmoush (5) replaced Kudus but barely got involved once Spurs were forced to defend, while James Maddison (6) took over from Gallagher in the number 10 role and helped keep the attacking intent alive. Mateus Fernandes came on late for Senesi with too little time to be rated.
Overall, Tottenham can take heart from fighting back to earn a point with ten men, with Solanke’s header rewarding their refusal to quit. Savio and Gallagher stood out, but Bentancur’s dismissal was a major blow, and Spurs will need better discipline and finishing to turn good displays into wins. For United, it will feel like two points dropped after taking the lead and playing against ten men.
