Tottenham have been handed a fitness boost ahead of Monday’s Premier League clash with Coventry City, with Pedro Porro showing signs that his return is close.
The Spain right-back damaged his hamstring and had to come off early in Spurs’ defeat to Aston Villa before the international break. The injury kept him out of the 1-1 draw with Manchester United, but he now appears to be progressing well in his rehabilitation.
Porro posted a clip of himself on social media leaping onto a plyometric box from a seated position, a sign that his training load is stepping up. He captioned it with a message saying he was nearly back, which will lift supporters’ spirits. The post doesn’t confirm he is fully fit, but it is an encouraging sign as Spurs prepare for their next league game.
His return would be a welcome lift for head coach Roberto De Zerbi as Tottenham look to turn their results around. Porro brings real attacking quality down the right, with dangerous deliveries, forward runs and the ability to set up teammates. In his absence, Archie Gray covered at right-back against United, so having Porro back would give De Zerbi another option and could sharpen Spurs’ attack against Coventry. The club will still need to assess his fitness carefully before deciding whether to risk him.
A clearer picture should come at De Zerbi’s next press conference, where he is expected to update the media on Porro and whether he could feature on Monday. Attention is also on Dejan Kulusevski, who is working his way back from a long layoff with a complicated knee problem. He travelled with the squad for the United game but missed out on the matchday group.
For now, Porro’s update points to a comeback that is getting closer, though fans will want official confirmation that he is ready to face Coventry.
