Liverpool FC hit with another injury setback as key player faces potential season-ending absence

Liverpool FC have suffered a major setback at a crucial stage of the season, with goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili ruled out for between two and four weeks.

The 25-year-old picked up a serious-looking injury during Sunday’s dramatic 2-1 Merseyside derby win over Everton FC at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. While early fears suggested a more severe issue, a report from The Athletic indicates the damage is not as bad as initially thought.

Even so, the goalkeeper is expected to be out for at least two weeks, with a recovery window of 14 to 28 days depending on how quickly the deep wound heals. Liverpool’s medical team has yet to confirm an exact return date.

With Alisson Becker still unavailable, attention now turns to Freddie Woodman, who is in line to start against Crystal Palace FC this weekend.

Woodman was brought on in the 58th minute after Mamardashvili’s collision with Everton striker Beto, making his Premier League debut for the Reds under intense pressure. Despite the hostile atmosphere, the former Newcastle goalkeeper remained composed and played his part in helping Liverpool hold on until Virgil van Dijk netted a dramatic 100th-minute winner.

Manager Arne Slot praised the third-choice keeper for his composure during what he described as a “difficult moment,” as Liverpool now prepare for the next test without two of their senior goalkeepers.
