“I Can’t Understand That Goal” — Rob Edwards Rages at VAR as Tottenham Hotspur Edge Wolves in Controversial Win

“I can’t understand how that goal was allowed” — a frustrated Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Rob Edwards has gone viral after a fiery post-match interview in which he openly questioned Tottenham’s victory, suggesting the result hinged on questionable officiating decisions.

The Wolves boss launched a strong criticism of the referee and VAR following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux, insisting that João Palhinha’s late winner should not have been awarded.

Tottenham ended their winless streak through Palhinha’s 82nd-minute goal, which came amid a crowded and chaotic scene in the penalty area after a corner, with the midfielder finishing from close range.

But Edwards was furious, arguing that key infringements in the buildup were overlooked by both the referee and VAR.

Speaking after the game, he didn’t hide his frustration, claiming there were multiple moments where officials should have intervened. He highlighted what he believed was a clear foul during the scramble and also questioned a possible offside that, in his view, wasn’t properly checked.

“It’s chaotic in the box, but that doesn’t mean the rules go out the window,” he said, adding that the goal involved not just one mistake but a sequence of errors.

The decisive moment settled an otherwise tight and scrappy contest, with Wolves showing resilience despite having already been relegated earlier in the week.

Edwards also raised concerns about the consistency of VAR decisions, suggesting his team has repeatedly been on the wrong end of calls this season. He questioned whether VAR is truly being used to correct “clear and obvious” mistakes.

While praising his players’ effort, he admitted the nature of the defeat made it difficult to accept, stressing that matches should be decided by quality rather than controversy.

Although disappointed, Edwards acknowledged there was nothing his side could do to change the result, as Wolves now turn their attention to life in the Championship.

For Tottenham, the win provides a crucial boost in their survival battle, but for Wolves, it leaves lingering frustration — and a manager still searching for answers.
