Roberto De Zerbi is set to oversee a sweeping squad rebuild at Tottenham Hotspur this summer after steering the club to Premier League survival on the final day of the season. While avoiding relegation was a relief, the Italian has made clear that significant changes are needed to ensure Spurs never find themselves in a similar position again.
Transfer activity is already underway, with experienced defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson set to arrive on free transfers, while an approach has been made for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke. Yet alongside the incomings, departures are also on the horizon — and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is emerging as one of the most significant potential exits.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus have renewed their interest in Vicario ahead of the summer window. The Turin club had previously explored a move for the Italian international before pivoting towards Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, but with that pursuit failing to progress, their attention has returned to the Tottenham shot-stopper.
Vicario arrived at Spurs from Empoli three years ago with high expectations, and initially delivered on them. However, last season proved difficult, with Tottenham leaking goals throughout the campaign and the goalkeeper managing only a handful of clean sheets. His situation has been further complicated by the impressive form of Antonin Kinsky during his injury absence, raising genuine questions about the goalkeeping hierarchy under De Zerbi — despite the manager having previously spoken highly of Vicario in public.
Beyond his performances, Vicario’s potential exit would create a leadership void at a critical time. He has been one of the senior voices in the dressing room, and his departure — particularly if it coincides with that of Cristian Romero — would leave Tottenham considerably light on experienced figures. It is one reason why Robertson’s arrival is viewed as more than just a positional signing; the former Liverpool captain brings the kind of leadership and winning mentality that a young, evolving Spurs squad will badly need. With De Zerbi looking to instil a new identity at the club, building the right blend of youth and experience this summer may prove just as important as the quality of the signings themselves.
